David Sandeman

This is my personal web site. It has two purposes. The first is to provide information on my neurosurgical clinical practice, It is designed to compliment information available from other sources e.g. The Southmead hospital (North Bristol NHS trust) neurosurgical web site and Dr Foster. The data presented here has, unless otherwise stated, been collected personally and prospectively as discussed in the section on audit of in patient activity. I hope that this information will be of interest to patients, the general public, fellow clinicians and my management colleagues.

The second aim of the site is to provide more general information for patients about the work I do and the surgical philosophy behind it. I have tried to give a personal view of as many of the problems that come within my field of expertise. I hope that the information included here will compliment the discussions that I have in clinic and provide a point of reference for further discussions where necessary.

Most of the specialist work I do is done as part of a multidisciplinary team. With more complex surgical activity this is a vital part of modern practice. I have done my best to acknowledge the support of my colleagues in the different sections of this web site. Any failure to do so is an oversight which I will be happy to rectify.

If you have any questions or comments on the information presented please contact me on: info@david-sandeman.com

The site includes the following:

  • Personal details / Curriculum Vitae
  • Clinical audit of inpatient activity
  • Description of specific clinical activity
    • Epilepsy surgery
    • Neuronavigation / Robotic Surgery
    • Neuro-oncology
    • Pain surgery
    • Spinal surgery
  • Description of private practice activity
  • Description of my business activities with South West Imaging Services Ltd

One of the difficulties I have had is keeping the web site up to date as, over the years my practice has evolved making different aspects of my practice more or less relevant. The sections on private practice and SWIS are entirely historical. Recently my input to the pain and oncology services has become more limited such that my main activty now is epilepsy surgery and spinal surgery. I have included a separate section on the history of image guiided surgery as this is something that I have been involved in from the outset.

Finally, I have now retired from clinical practice - discussed in the section below.
